The beauty of the Meramec River and its surrounding bluffs, caves and forests have pleased visitors since Meramec River State Park opened in 1927. In 1933, the craftsmen of the Civilian Conservation Corps began blending a variety of visitor facilities into the park's rugged landscape. Today, this popular 6,896-acre jewel offers year-round access to camping, picnicking and trails. It has 170 basic campsites and 80 improved campsites or you can overnight in one of the 18 cabins. The entire campground borders the river.

Activities: Guided tours of Fisher Cave, one of more than 40 caves in the park, are provided on a seasonal basis for a nominal fee. In the mood for some angling? The river offers an excellent opportunity to land bass, catfish and panfish.

Amenities: Camping opportunities vary from remote primitive backpack sites to recreational vehicle sites with sewer, water and electric connections. Hot showers, modern restrooms, a coin-operated laundry and a sanitary dump station are available to all campers. Twenty cabins scattered across the hillside overlooking the valley are heated and air-conditioned and come complete with linens, cooking utensils and dishes. Lodging rental is coordinated at the park store that also has picnic supplies, toiletries, tackle, souvenirs and firewood.

Insider Info: The park's rustic dining lodge offers good food and one of the best views in the park. But some services and facilities are only available on a seasonal basis.

To maintain teh ecological stability of all our lakes, we only allow electric motots. Other facilities by the lake include two sandy beaches, roped off swimming areas, raft with slide, beach umbrellas, several picnic areas and pavillions.
